At kmfm, we’re all about creating opportunities for young people to get hands-on experience in the world of radio. With limited chances for students to gain real-life radio station experience in Kent, we’re proud to offer a limited unique and fun work experience program.

A Few Things You Should Know

Before you get excited about joining the team, we want to be open and transparent:

We receive over 30+ applications each week from students wanting to gain work experience at kmfm. While we would love to say "yes" to everyone, unfortunately, we can’t accommodate every request.

Our team is small, so we aim to give each student a quality experience. This means we have to be selective about who we accept.

To ensure the experience is beneficial for you, we are unable to accept students under the age of 16.

Some students may request music production experience, but that’s not something we offer at kmfm. We want to make sure we’re setting you up for success, not disappointment.

What Kind of Experience Will You Gain?

Here at kmfm, you’ll get to work alongside our award-winning team and dive into various exciting areas of radio. Here’s what you can expect to learn and experience during your time with us:

• Broadcasting Get hands-on with the technical side of things and learn how we run live shows.
• Show Producing Help create and structure radio shows, making sure everything flows smoothly.
• Music Playlist & Scheduling See how we curate and schedule the music for our listeners.
• Presenting Watch and learn from our presenters as they broadcast to 00000s of people every day.
• News Broadcast & Preparation Learn how we gather, prepare, and deliver news for radio.
