Take inspiration from the Leeds Castle grounds; colours, plants and even choose a bird of prey to make your crest really horrible:

Will it be a raven who eats the eyes of carcasses so they can get to the juicy brain?
An owl who swallows their prey whole to then barf up the bones!
Or a peregrine falcon who can only carry half its weight, so makes its kill lighter by removing the wings, legs and head before carrying it to its nest!
