Whitstable Choral Society presents Rossini - Petite Messe Solennelle, with soloists, in the heart of Whitstable.

First performed in Paris, 1864, composed 30 years after Rossini retired, he called it the last of my 'peches de vieillesse', sins of my old age.
It was described as a 'richness of harmony, nobility and elegance, it opens with an enlivening ostinato and counterpoint harmonium.
In Rossini's lifetime the original version was not performed as he was unable to get permission to have female singers in church. Thankfully in 2025, in Whitstable we will be singing it as Rossini intended.
